Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 5, 2026 · Last updated: August 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how The James Games Company, LLC ("we," "us") collects, uses, and shares personal information when you use MONOLITH (the "Service"). It is written for users in the United States.
The short version: we collect the account and gameplay data needed to run the game and your purchases. We share it only with the service providers that make the Service work (Supabase, Stripe, Anthropic, ElevenLabs, Netlify). We do not sell your personal information. You can delete your account at any time.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account: your email address, a display name, and a password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider (Supabase) and stored in hashed form; we never see your plaintext password.
- Gameplay content: the characters, campaigns, choices, typed actions and dialogue, and saved games you create. This may include free-text you type into the game, which is stored as part of your session and saves.
- Purchase information: when you buy credits or a monthly Pass, your payment-card details are collected and processed directly by Stripe. We do not receive or store full card numbers. We receive limited billing metadata (such as purchase records, Pass status, and customer/subscription identifiers).
- Communications & feedback: information you provide if you contact us or submit in-app feedback.
Information collected automatically
- Technical data: IP address, browser and device type, and similar log data generated when you use the Service (including via our hosting provider, Netlify).
- Local storage: data stored in your browser to run the game — for example, local saves, a per-device identifier used by multiplayer "Device Mode," your preferences, and your authentication session token.
- Usage & session data: records of your play sessions, including timing, play mode (solo / multiplayer / device), credit type used, and volume of AI and voice generation. We use this to operate the Service, manage credits, understand how the Service is used, and set and adjust pricing over time.
Voice features
If you use voice input, speech recognition may be performed by your browser/device. If text-to-speech narration is enabled (Premium/Gold sessions), the text to be spoken is sent to our voice provider (ElevenLabs) to generate audio. We do not use your voice to identify you.
2. How We Use Information
- To provide, operate, and maintain the Service and your account;
- To generate AI game content in response to your inputs (see Section 3);
- To process purchases, manage your credit balance and Passes, and prevent fraud;
- To save and sync your games across devices;
- To understand usage and set/adjust pricing and features;
- To secure the Service, enforce our Terms, and comply with law;
- To respond to your requests, feedback, and service-related notices.
3. AI Processing
To generate Game Master narration and responses, the text of your gameplay inputs and relevant game context is transmitted to our AI provider, Anthropic, which processes it to return a response. Do not enter sensitive personal information into gameplay text. Anthropic's handling of this data is governed by its own terms and privacy commitments as our processor.
4. How We Share Information
We share personal information only as follows:
- Service providers (processors): Supabase (authentication, database, storage of saves), Stripe (payments), Anthropic (AI processing), ElevenLabs (voice), and Netlify (hosting/delivery). They may process data only to provide services to us.
- Legal & safety: when required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users, the public, or us.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. Cookies & Local Storage
We use browser local storage and similar technologies that are strictly necessary to operate the Service — for example, to keep you signed in, to store local game saves and preferences, and to maintain a device identifier for multiplayer. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear this data in your browser settings, but doing so may sign you out and remove local saves.
6. Data Retention
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and thereafter as required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required (for example, purchase records kept for tax/accounting, including by Stripe).
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, authenticated access to our backend, and database row-level security. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Choices & Rights
- Access & update: you can view and update your display name and game data in the app.
- Delete: you can delete your account, which removes your associated personal information as described in Section 6. To request deletion or a copy of your data, contact us at thejamesgamescompany@gmail.com.
- Manage purchases: manage or cancel a monthly Pass through the in-app billing portal.
- Marketing: we send primarily service-related messages; any promotional emails will include an unsubscribe option.
9. California Residents
If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to request access to and deletion of it, to correct inaccurate information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law. To exercise your rights, contact us at thejamesgamescompany@gmail.com; we will verify your request and respond as required by law.
10. Children
The Service is intended for users 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us at thejamesgamescompany@gmail.com and we will delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new effective date and, for material changes, provide additional notice. Your continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
